Boat Safety Testing
You need to get a Boat Safety Scheme ( BSS ) certificate before you can register or buy a licence to use the inland waterways, ie: the Norfolk Broads. You don’t need a certificate if you have a privately owned ‘open boat’ with no motor, eg a canoe, paddleboard or rowboat.
Most Navigation Authorities insist upon a BSS Certificate being held. The certificate last for 4 years.
